Congratulations to Reservoir!!!

UGA senior Jesse Lafian won UGA’s Next Top Entrepreneur 2017! Judges heard pitches from the top eight teams selected to compete from applicants across the nation. Jesse’s pitch for his startup, Reservoir, won the judges over and they awarded him $10,000 to put towards his company.

As founder and owner of Reservoir, Jesse is developing a patent-pending sensor that allows landscapers to monitor soil moisture by logging into a website rather than driving to a job site. Jesse’s background as a Horticulture major helped him identify an expensive problem: overwatering kills a large portion of trees that landscapers install and warranty. Landscaping companies pay millions of dollars each year to remove and replace these trees. Jesse’s goal is to help landscapers save time, trees, and water.

Jesse’s idea has been gaining momentum since early 2016 when he won a grant from the UGA Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities. Since then, he has secured more UGA funding from the Terry College of Business Entrepreneurship Grant, Campus Sustainability Grant, and Food & AgriBusiness Entrepreneurial Initiative (FABricate). Last month, he won the FABricate pitch competition for a cash award of $1,000, but UGA’s Next Top Entrepreneur is certainly his biggest win yet!
